In 1777, this was the book that teachers used to teach 1st graders. For awhile, it was the second most sold book (next to the Bible). It’s amazing to see how public schools have changed once you read the contents of this book.

It’s interesting to note that the famous prayer:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray thee, Lord, my soul to keep;
If I should die before I wake,
I pray thee, Lord, my soul to take.
Came from the 1784 edition of The New-England Primer.
That was used in ‘enter sandman’ by Mettalica.
The New-England Primer?
I was responding to your post about the prayer.
